Grevenmacher

Although it was inhabited before Roman times, it was nevertheless the Romans that marked the area of Grevenmacher. In the 13thcentury impressive fortifications with 4 gates and 28 towers were built around the city. Today, a didactic trail leads through the remains of this fortress that was dismantled in 1688.

The cultural centre “Maacher Kulturhuef” hosts the National Print Museum as well as a museum dedicated to card games. It organises popular cultural events and runs the movie theatre “Cinémaacher”.

Grevenmacher is a thriving modern city with many tourist attractions: the lovely promenade along the Moselle, hiking trails, an open-air swimming pool, tennis courts, a first-class campsite attract a large number of visitors every year.

A very special attraction is the “Butterfly garden”, a hothouse with a large variety of butterflies. On board of the MS “Princesse Marie-Astrid” you can spend a relaxing afternoon followed by a visit of one of the wine cellars like those of Vinsmoselle or the Caves Bernard-Massard.
